Registry Grant Program
In January 2008, the International Foundation for Sonography Education and Research (IFSER) established a Registry Grant Program to provide support to sonography students, as well as encouragement to attain professional credential. In the inaugural year, IFSER awarded $16,000 in grants to students achieving credentials, and funding is earmarked by the organization to continue this program.
Description
Grant amounts will vary, dependent upon the certifying body used by the credentialing organization used by the student. A current list of recognized credentialing organizations and examinations eligible for this program are shown below.
American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
- RDMS® – Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer®* - includes specialty examinations in abdomen, breast, neurosonology, obstetrics and gynecology, and fetal echocardiography
- RDCS® – Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer®* - includes specialty examinations in adult, pediatric and fetal echocardiography
- RVT® – Registered Vascular Technologist®* - includes specialty examination in vascular technology
ARDMS requires the successful completion of the Sonography Principles and Instrumentation (SPI) Examination in order to attain the credentials listed above.
Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) – includes examination in non-invasive echo
- Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) – includes examination in non-invasive vascular
CCI requires all registry level candidates to either pass, or be granted exemption from, the Cardiovascular Science Examination in addition to passing the specific Registry Level Examination before being awarded a registry-level credential of RCS or RVS.
Grant Amounts
Grants in the amounts shown below will be awarded to students who have successfully completed both a sonography physics and specialty examination. A limited number of grants will be available during each calendar quarter and will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

Criteria
Grant applicant must:
- Be a graduate of a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Canadian Medical Association (CMA) accredited sonography program,
- Successfully complete required examinations to attain a credential from either ARDMS or CCI within six (6) months of graduation.
Guidelines
- Grants will be awarded as reimbursements,
- Applicant must submit: a) copy of their official ARDMS or CCI pass notification/score report, b) copy of the receipt of their payment for examination, and c) completed Registry Grant Application,
- Registry Grant Application and all supporting documentation must be received by IFSER within 30 calendar days of the date of the official pass notification/score report.
